A STRAW-COLORED LIGHT BOCK of reasonable strength for the style (6.7%) but a ho-hum character, not too clear with any particular flavor and thus none too memorable. Though it starts several promising tangents, each doubles back on itself for a zero sum: clean and fairly mild malts, but a little cloying relatively to the modest padding of citric hops around the middle. A nod to Germany in the marginally boosted phenols of the finish, and yet these linger but little in the aftertaste. Of a Schell’s sampler, this was the single brew not past its ‘best by’ date and nevertheless managed to be the most tepid.
