New Belgium – Belgo Belgian IPA

EVIDENTLY THE YEAST SELECTION is what earns the Belgian prefix, but it may be a bit oversold. A forward but well-textured hop profile comes first here (Simcoe, Centennial, Cascade, Amarillo) and is plenty noticeable without lingering too long. Balanced by some slightly sharper fruit sweetness. Golden clear pour, little more head than is usual for the style, and with a slightly phenolic, warming quality that only after the fact reveals the 7% ABV. Maybe a little higher than necessary, but the attenuation keeps the body pretty well in line while delivering a big, though not overbalanced, flavor.
