PERHAPS A LITTLE STAID these days, but it’s been around quite a while and remains a sturdy flagship. Also refreshing to see a West Coast brewery not run up the hop colors too stridently, instead preferring to lead with a somewhat spicy grain and medium caramel malt backbone. Hops are well-balanced at 60/40 citrus to grass, approximately, and the finish is medium long, clean, and with slightly high carbonation. Color a solid amber tinged with cardinal red. Alcohol gives a bit of slickness at the back end but is not too prominent at 6%.
