Plzensky Prazdroj – Pilsner Urquell (updated cans for 2013)

FOR THE ORIGINAL PILSNER URQUELL review, see here. This assessment comes after the brewery’s new push for expedited delivery and cold shipment in an effort to a) fluff up their marketing pitch, b) strike back against its reputation for skunk, c) deliver a fresher beer more akin to the authentic Plzeň experience, or d) some combination of the above. Whatever they’ve done, it seems like it might be working. Some light DMS remains in the nose but the flavors are remarkably crisp—bit nutty, bit phenolic, plenty of balance and Saaz hop freshness around two-thirds of the way through. This could be a winning effort.
