Dark Horse Brewing – Thirsty Trout Baltic Porter

Thirsty Trout Porter  SERVED AFTER PLEAD THE 5TH, this is pleasantly crisp and full of life. Still quite robust and dark, though, with a deep brown (almost but not quite tar black) color that bubbles up a lighter tan head of modest size. Plenty of moderately roasted coffee beans and chocolate in the nose. Some molasses and a bit of sugar in the flavor, too, but enough floral hop brightness on the back end to spark up the roof of the mouth and some few finishing phenols to clear out the back. 7% is slightly present in the finish and mouthfeel later on. Another relatively low-carbonation brew from Dark Horse, but with finishes this clean and balanced perhaps the bubbles aren’t necessary to cover up faults. Good fresh but would likely appreciate further with age.
